Playing the Long Game

Getting out of the house and experiencing the world safely is not straight-forward for families with children who have felt the keen wind of danger on their backs. Strange people, different places, crowds, queues and a lack of the usual routine can all render a new experience far from a ‘treat’.

For many years I tried to keep up the pretence that we were an average family wrestling with all the usual things that average families wrestle with. We are not, and arriving at a place where we can all start to accept that has been one of the toughest aspects of adoptive parenting for me.
