Many children who come into the care system, and who are subsequently adopted or go into kinship or foster care, have lived with and around domestic violence and abuse. They may have only been babies sitting in a car seat, strapped in a buggy or high chair, or held in someone’s arms as objects, fists or shoves were rained down upon the adult victim but what is clear it that they will have been affected by this. Even a baby who spends little or no time in this environment, apart from as a developing foetus will bear the long term ‘scars’ of this troubled start.
